Travel Information

By plane: There are direct flights connecting Cluj to Barcelona, Bari, Bergamo, Bologna, Brussels Charleroi, Dortmund, Eindhoven, London Luton, Madrid, Munich, Paris Beauvais, Rome, Treviso, Valencia, Vienna, Zaragoza and many others.

By train: Cluj-Napoca is about 9 hours from Bucuresti (Bucharest), and 11 hours from Budapest, Hungary.

By car: If you travel from Western Europe, take motorway M1 from Wien to Budapest, then European Route E60 for Budapest – Szolnok – Püspökladány – Ártánd / Bors (border crossing) – Oradea – Cluj.

Cluj-Napoca by bus

Cluj airport is located 6 miles east of the city-centre. Electric, Express Bus A1E links Cluj Airport with the city centre (Piata Mihai Viteazul).
Fare (3.5 RON ≈ 0.7 EUR) – on board using a credit/debit card.

which connect Cluj-Napoca airport with Piata Mihai Viteazul – city centre.

Several bus (autobuz), tram (tramvai) and trolleybus (troilebuz) routes connect Cluj Napoca’s main areas and tourist attractions. The public transportation system runs between 5:00am and 11:15pm.

Tickets must be purchased beforehand and validated in the ticket-stamping machine upon boarding. A route map can be viewed here.

Cluj-Napoca by taxi

Taxis are another quick option to get from the airport to the city centre (approximate fare: the equivalent of 10-15 EUR).

There are plenty of taxis at the airport but they might charge you more than Uber and may not always accept cards. Bolt is more popular in Romania than Uber and has better rates.

Currency exchange: The local currency is Romanian Lei (RON). Many exchange offices close to the city center offer good rates for Euro, US Dollar or Hungarian Forint. Check here for more information.

Visa: EU, US and Canada citizens do not need a visa to enter Romania. In other cases please contact the Romanian Embassy in your country, or check the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
